The Nips are Getting Bigger

mental as anything
Today's showcase is by a band called Mental as Anything. To be honest with you I don't know all that much about this band. I do know that they're Australian. I also know that on August 16, 1977 (the day Elvis died) they played their first gig together. The song I have here was released in 1979. I think I found this cassette in a bargain bin somewhere for 99 cents. Rumor has it that they formed a band in order to get free beer at the local pub. Even though they never were huge they are still together today and their newest album called Plucked just came out I believe. So I give you:

The Nips are Getting Bigger by Mental as Anything (aprox 3.2 mb)
(File taken down, check current posts for some more great music)

This song is a quirky pop tune that rocks in so many different ways that I have to say it's a classic that got lost in the shuffle of the 80's. It defifnitely deserves some recognition and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. A great song from a band that deserves more love. Check it out and dig it.

Carrot Juice is Murder

A while back I heard this song called Canada's Really Big and thought it was a hoot. For some reason I htought it had to be the Barenaked Ladies but on further research I founde out it was a folksy trio called the Arrogant Worms. So I checked out their stuff and found out I enjoyed the hell out of it. I could go on and on about alot of their songs but the song I am showcasing here is one that should be played for all vegetarians. Who says plants can't feel? So I give you

Carrot Juice is Murder by the Arrogant Worms

Buy it here.

And just for fun here's a gander at the lyrics.

Listen up brothers and sisters, come hear my desperate tale
I speak of our friends of nature, trapped in the dirt like a jail
Vegetables live in oppresion, served on our tables each night
The killing of veggies is madness, I say we take up the fight
Salads are only for murderers, cole slaw's a fascist regime
Don't think that they don't have feelings, just cuz a radish can't

I've heard the screams of the vegetables (scream scream
Watching their skins being peeled (Having their insides
Grated and steamed with no mercy (burning off calories)
How do you think that feels (bet it hurts really bad)
Carrot Juice constitutes murder (and that's a real crime)
Greenhouses prisons for slaves (let my vegetables grow)
It's time to stop all this gardening (it's as dirty as hell)
Let's call a spade a spade (is a spade is a spade...)

I saw a man eating celery, so I beta him black and blue
If he ever touches a sprout again, I'll bite him clean in two
I'm a political prisoner trapped in a windowless cage
Cuz I stopped the slughter of turnips by killing three men in a
I told the judge when he sentenced me, this is my finest hour
I'd kill those farmers again just to save one more cauliflower

How low as people do we dare to stoop
Making young broccoli's bleed in the soup
Untie your beans, uncage your tomatoes, let ptted plants free
Don't mash that potatoe

I've heard the screams of the vegetables (scream scream
Watching their skins being peeled (fates in the stir fry are
Grated and steamed with no mercy (you fat gourmet slob)
How do you think that feels (leave them out in the fields)
Carrot Juice constitutes murder (V8's genocide)
Greenhouses prisons for slaves (yes your compost's a grave)
It's time to stop all this gardening (take up macram_)
Let's call a spade a spade (is a spade is a spade...)

Surfin' Dead by The Cramps

The newest thing to take the blogosphere by storm are mp3 bloggers. I don't even want to get into the legalities of this but I spent a lot of time surfing some sites today and came up with some ideas and picked up a few good mp3's along the way. So I'm going to try a weekly feature to showcase a really good tune, while this is still semi legal. Maybe twice a week, we'll see. So first off let me say this:

MP3s that will appear on this blog will be available for only a week or so(usually far less) and are here for sampling purposes only. It is not my intention to violate copyrights. My only goal is to share my love/hate relationship with music. If you are the creator or copyright owner of a song or anything else that might be posted here, please CONTACT ME by sending an e-mail to lovedonnaz at if you wish to have it removed.

Visitors: Please help me save bandwidth by not downloading multiple songs at once and PLEASE don't direct link to any individual tracks.Likewise, it's best for my bandwidth if you download first to your computer and listen to it later rather than streaming (and then delete the track as soon as possible from your computer, of course, like I know most of you will). Most importantly, if you like an artist you hear here , you should definitely do your best to take the knowledge you gain here and go out and BUY THEIR ALBUMS.

Having said that legal junk let's get on with the show. For my first feature you're going to hear the best zombie song ever recorded. I first heard it when I saw the movie Return of the Living Dead at the theater back in the 80's. For example you know you're in for a good tune when the song starts out with, "Aaahh my favorite brain soup, cream of nowhere."The song is Surfin' Dead by The Cramps.(No longer available) This song originally appeared on the Return of the Living Dead Soundtrack and was added to their album Smell of Female as a bonus track on the CD. The Cramps style of music has been described as psychobilly, although Surfin' Dead doesn't really invoke that when you listen to it. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. Hopefully by doing this once in a while I can get people to listen to good music again instead of a lot of the drivel that's being played on the radio now. If you do check out these tunes let me know by leaving a comment.
