Today in Music History:

In 1962, The Four Seasons started a five week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Sherry'. They became the first American group to have three No.1's in succession.
ValdyValdy, born Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa, has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for years. A man with a thousand friends, from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island to Texas to New Zealand, he's a songwriter who catches the small but telling moments that make up life.

Remembered best for Play Me a Rock and Roll Song, his song which tells the story of finding himself, a relaxed and amiable story-teller folk singer, facing a rambunctious rock n roll audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival in 1968. Valdy has had 22 singles, 4 Gold Records, 16 albums, and has received two Juno Awards (from a total of seven Juno nominations), and four Gold albums to his credit.

Along the way, he's taken his music to a dozen different countries, from Denmark to Australia, been an invited performer for five years in a row at the prestigious Kerrville Festival in Texas, and even played a lead role in an episode of The Beachcombers. Valdy's still around and is currently on tour where his next performance will be September 18. In May 2006 he will be starting his first ever tour of England, Ireland and Scotland. Right on Valdy!

Today, he lives on Salt Spring Island, near Vancouver Island BC, where he lives with his wife Kathleen, two dogs and two large cats (the three grown-up "kids" are all now living in the southern mainland of British Columbia in or around Vancouver)
