Let's Praise Pussy Rock

Today in Music History:

In 1969 The Beatles make their last performance as a group on the roof of the Apple building during the filming of 'Let It Be'.
Once upon a time in a land called the mid west, there was this band that rocked fairly hard, actually they rocked pretty good. Then amazingly they had a huge hit from a decent power ballad, from that day they went from a great little rock n roll band to a band who suckled at the huge teat of corporate rock. The corporation said more top 40 crap ballads, else you will die. After having spent years playing in every lousy bar and even proms, they said no way are we going back there. Thus they complied. We will provide more sappy power ballads as long as you the corporate teat keeps us in the green milky substance from your ample bosom. Thus the demise of a decent band.

Too bad, really sad, because once they started churning out what the corporate gods wanted, then a rock n roll band died a horrible death. That death being that everyone automatically says that band sucks. No one gives them a listen, because of THAT song. But they used to rock.

I will keep that alive. Long before the advent of pussy rock, I was a fan of REO Speedwagon. Long before that "Keep on lovin you"song, this band could rock. It was hard as a fan of the early rockin' stuff to see them dwindle as a purveyor of the power ballad. Thus a band that used to rock died a horrible death at the hands of the corporate gods.

But the back catalog is great. Pre 1980 they rocked. I thought I would give one example but I think you guys should hear at least two examples. Especially the youngsters who don't know any better. Judge for yourself. If I'm lyin then I'm dyin.

I don't know exactly the details of selling their soul, but even though I provide a link to buy this disc, it has been cut in half by the powers to be from the vinyl version. Even so, this live album that came out before anyone knew who REO was kills. One thing fer sure there is no bullshit power ballads on it and it rocks.
