Today in Music History:
In 1975, Elton John was named Godfather to John and Yoko Lennon's son Sean.
The Punk Group are a couple of guys that hail from Portland Oregon that craft brilliant, twisted, Devo-influenced little ditties that take aim at anyone and everyone (un)fortunate enough to grab their attention. Very definitely NOT politically correct and I freakin' love it.
Warning to the thin-skinned, easily offended or hyper-politically correct — the Punk Group is not for you. Not that the band’s two members care what anyone thinks about them. Armed with a drum machine, synthesizer, guitar and bass, Brian Applegate and Tony Cameron have turned a potential liability — their lack of formal musical training — into an asset. The Punk Group has played onstage with such notable artists as DEVO, Cake and Gary Numan.
Songs like “MySpace” go straight to the heart of the Web site’s appeal, with Applegate and Cameron chanting “MySpace is good for getting laid” over a sequenced beat that will give you Frogger flashbacks. There are plenty of gems in their catalogue, but I have heard that one must see the band live. I'm putting up a couple of my favorites here today. If you only listen to one song this year, it has to be "Toby Keith". I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard. Then to show that they are not afraid of anyone or any backlash, "Great White" is a ditty about the tragic fire in which that band was involved in. If these songs tickle your funny and music bone, The Punk Group has more songs available for free download at their site, where you can also purchase their albums.
