Antennas Up

It's been a while since I talked about some new stuff. Something I've been listening to a lot lately is a band from Kansas City, Kansas called Antennas Up. They released their self titled debut album in April of this year. One description of their music that I've ran across is, "If the Gorillaz remixed an old Stevie Wonder record." Not a bad description. One song on the album reminded be of old Barenaked Ladies, but otherwise I couldn't really compare them to anyone else. Let's say there's a touch of 70's mixed with a dash of contemporary electronic sampling and rounded out with some good ole pop/rock. What really makes them great is that they are self proclaimed nerds that rock. Especially bassist Kyle Akers who has boasted that he recently got the entire Star Trek Next Generation Boxed set from Japan that has like 49 discs in it. Well that's what I read in an interview somewhere. With this album dancing is compulsory and guys are encouraged to use it as party music to seduce the ever-so-elusive and sophisticated race of females. If those aren't good enough reasons to grab the disc, remember that it is also reportedly a ticket to a spaceship. I dig it's groovy licks and it may be a candidate for the top ten come December, so consider that the homercat seal of approval.
