Stunt is the fifth full-length album and fourth studio album by the Canadian band Barenaked Ladies. By far their most successful album, it entered the US charts at #3 and sold over 4 million units by the end of its chart run. The Ladies were already big in Canada but this is the album that shot them over the top in the US. Its first single, "One Week", became (and remains) the band's biggest hit, hitting #1 in the US. As with each of their early albums, the band recorded one song, "Alcohol", completely naked. Never before had the band been able to pull off so many different styles, from jangly pop and alt-country to loungy bossa nova, and they did it so damn well. What I love the most about these guys are their amazing harmonies. Simply oustanding. In December 2008, former Beatle Paul McCartney was asked by a session musician which bands he enjoys in the current music scene. His response was the Ladies: "Their harmonies are right on. They could out sing us any day of the week. I don’t think John and myself ever had the sort of range they do." McCartney added that he wouldn't mind recording with the band in the future. It will be interesting to see if their harmonies will suffer as the result of Stephen Page leaving the band, as he was an integral part of that. We shall see soon hopefully. A quick note to fans of Good Rockin', homercat has an extremely busy month of August culminating with his trip to see AC/DC on the 29th and a well deserved vacation break. This coming week I will not have any free time at all so I hopes you all will hang tough in my absence. Now let's get Barenaked eh.
